How The Propolis Honey Ampule Light Improved My Skin

11/26/2017

I have mentioned from my previous entry that I switch skincare products almost every two to three weeks and I think it finally took its toll on my skin. *sigh* I developed some bumps and dark spots from using another serum apart from Klairs and I thought I was just purging from using another product but the blemishes did not go away after a few more days.  Just then, I decided to ditch everything and began going back to the basics again--cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. After a week of resting my skin from using various products, I have slowly introduced the GK Propolis Honey Ampule Light which has Propolis as its main ingredient.

Just like my other reviews, let us first with the most basic question of all; what is propolis? How does it benefit the skin?

If I have gotten your attention, you might want to keep reading to learn more about this latest product brought to us locally from South Korea by SaeliYuriMelissaLee's All About Korean Cosmetics & Skincare.

What is Propolis?

Propolis is a substance that is derived from the sap of coniferous trees combined when bees collect resins from these trees. Propolis is used by them to connect smaller gaps in their hives. This substance is said to be packed with vitamins and minerals that are beneficial to the skin. Propolis works therapeutically by combatting acne causing bacteria and is also very rich in antioxidants.

How does it benefit the skin?

As mentioned above, Propolis has known compounds that are able to combat various microorganisms. It is a substance that is good enough to provide protection on your skin against blemishes and also speeds up wound healing. Aside from that, Propolis also have a component that soothes inflamed skin. Other benefits your skin can get from including Propolis into your skincare routine are:
  • Moisture retention.
  • Rejuvenates your skin cells revealing a healthier, glowing, and youthful skin.
  • Soothes dry skin.
  • Evens out your skin tone (possible whitening effect).

The GK Propolis Honey Ampule Light

Now, let us talk about the product itself. The GK Propolis Honey Ampule Light is formulated by South Korean company GK Medical Group.

Packaging: The GK Propolis Honey Ampule Light comes in a white box with a simple prints on it containing ten vials. Each vial contains 15mL of the product. Over all, I think the whole package can last you for more than six months of use. The vials are tinted brown which I think is to protect the liquid inside from high temperatures. Each also comes with a dropper for hygienic purposes and also for you to dispense the product easier.

Formula & Consistency: The serum is a clear liquid and is semi-viscous upon initial dispense but when you spread it onto your skin, it turns to be very water-y and gets absorbed by the skin in less than a minute. Surprisingly, unlike most serums that I have tried, this feels very light on the skin. It is as if you did not apply anything on your skin at all.

Smell: It has a sweet, floral-like smell which I think is very refreshing.

How to use: After cleansing and toning, wait for a few seconds before applying the serum on to the skin. This allows the previous product to be absorbed first to avoid piling up so much skincare products on the pores which can result to blockage. Dispense the necessary amount on the palms of your hands and rub them together. Afterwards, gently pat the product on the skin to enhance absorption and promote circulation. You can opt to dispense the product directly on your skin. Do whichever fit your preferences best. :)

As you can see there are dark spots and redness present on my cheeks which eventually subsided after two weeks of use. The November 3 photos was during the week where I stopped using all my skincare products. I used my phone's camera for this, and these photos are nowhere near edited or filtered.
My thoughts about it: I think this serum is amazing and I will be sticking with it for now. It does improved my skin and gotten rid of my blemishes that I acquired from changing products from time to time. It dries pimples quickly too. What I like about this serum is the fact that it gets absorbed faster, and how light it feels on the skin since I have noticed that I tend to react when I layer too much product on it. The GK Propolis Honey Ampule Light produces and extra hydrating effect when partnered with my new sleeping mask. I gave one vial to my friend, and when I also asked for her feedback, she told me that her pimples dried quite easily and the inflammation also subsided. I have been using one 15mL vial for more than two weeks now, and considering its consistency, a little goes a long way. If you are only using this at night, maybe one vial can last your a month or depending on the amount that you are dispensing. Just a little tip though, this product may increase your sensitivity from the sun rays, so it is best to finish your routine with a good sunscreen. However, I do suggest that to maximize its effects, you may want to just include this in your night time routine instead.

Where to buy: You can get your own set from SMYLEE Korean Cosmetics & Skincare group on Facebook. Each vial retails for P150-P180, and a set costs about P1,100+ depending on your nanay angels. :)

    1. Hi! I use farmstay horse oil toner :) Preferably may toner pa din sana kasi it helps in balancing the pH of your skin. Kumbaga sa pagluluto, di masarap ang ulam kapag kulang ng ingredients. Heheh. Toner is very essential kasi to prepare your skin sa iba pang products na kailangan i apply. Also its the first step to bring back the moisturization on your skin after cleansing :)

  6. Hello! I'm starting to use Propolis now.
Can I still use cream and face powder after applying propolis or cream first before applying propolis? Wait is the best opt for that, Patricia?

    1. Hi, Kim!

Creams should always go at the last step of your routine since they are the ones that have the heaviest consistency.

      You can try this routine:

      Cleanse -> tone -> serum/ampule -> moisturiser/creams/gels

      Thank you! :)

    1. Hi! It depends naman po sa inyo, but it is really advisable to use toner kasi it immediately replenishes the moisture that was lost after cleansing. Pati po the toner balances the skin's pH and prep it for any other products that will be applied on your skin further. I suggest po na mag introduce kayo ng toner sa skin nyo pa unti unti :)

Commercially available toners can be made with high alcohol content, I suggest po for milder toners like the ones from Innisfree, COSRX, etc. :) I think Garnier is also okay po.

      Thank you!

  11. hi can i use it for my redness? actually kaya ako nag karoon nito because I forgot na bawal magpaaraw if you are using kojic haha.. i was hoping na sana pwede syang gamitin .

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hello! Yes, propolis soothes redness pero hindi ako sure if this goes well with Kojic. As you know, super tapang ng Kojic that it ends up stripping the skin with moisture, thinning the layer of the skin leading to irritation kaya it causes redness. I suggest in stopping the use of Kojic muna for 1-2 weeks before starting on Propolis just to be safe. :)

      Thank you.

  12. Hi-I am allergic to bees and honey, can I still use this and does it maybe attract bees?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi! I do not suggest you using this if you are allergic to bees and other by-products, as propolis is basically an allergen too. You may consult your dermatologist if you still wish to use one. Thank you!

Also, no, this does not attract bees :)

    1. Hi! I am not sure about the components of Klairs soothing serum and I haven't really tried layering serums. However, you may want to start introducing the propolis ample light and use them alternately with the Klairs one. :)

  14. Hi pwede po bang gumamit nito ang 16 years old na teenager?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hello! Although wala naman claims about age group, as a healthcare professional, I suggest wag muna sa 16 years old because sensitive pa ang skin nila. Breakouts are usually normal at their age and what you can do is to use mild cleansers like cetaphil and be sure to cleanse regularly not exceeding twice per day and drink lots of water 💛
